As a member of an ethnic minority community, I have witnessed first hand some of the problems that exist in socially and economically deprived communities. As an educationalist originally from a similar background, I feel I have a responsibility to now give back my time and effort and work together to better the world we live in, I have been involved in various voluntary work since my college days. |

Some day I hope to run the London Marathon. Whilst in Jordan, I participated in the Dead Sea Marathon which raised money for various charities assigned by the Queen of Jordan. I tried to run for most of it, but knee problems at the time didn’t allow me to do that for too long on tarmac. |

As ICT Co-ordinator responsible for the development of ICT facilities at the school, I recommended the rolling out of new machines. Rather than selling the old ones, our department managed to convince the school to donate the old computers to an orphanage in Jordan. |

Concerned about the increase in the use of drugs amongst the youth, I worked with members of the community in the East London area to raise awareness of the dangers related to drug abuse. This involved liaising with local health and youth workers, organising seminars and encouraging participation in the events. |

I worked as a producer and presenter for a local radio in West Yorkshire where the show was aimed at raising standards of education within our community. I interviewed teachers, parents as well as governers to encourage discussion over concerns surrounding education. |
